The Pacifica Ukes Junior Strings Program was started in the fall of 2012. This group replaces the previous "Junior B" program and groups which were held as extra-curricular groups within several Elementary Schools in Campbell River. The change coincided with the school district's restructuring to a K-5, 6-8, 9-12 system.
The young beginners in the Junior Strings program performed in several concerts throughout the year, culminating in a short concert tour of three schools in the district late in May. These events include the annual Pacifica Ukes Christmas concert, the school district Spring Music Fest and a local Spring tour to several local retirement homes.
The Junior Strings Program draws from several elementary schools in Campbell River and is made up of grade 4 and 5 students. No auditions are required and anyone who wishes to learn to play the ukulele is accepted. The only prerequisite is their desire to learn to make music with the ukulele and to improve on their musical skills. Many students from this group will move on to be a part of the "Junior A" ensemble.
